Handmade sterling silver and brass statement necklace. A hand-sawed, hand-textured owl sits beneath a petite, brass crescent moon. The imagery sits in a hand-sawed ornate frame. An elongated Rosarita stone, set in a serrated bezel setting, dangles beneath the pendant. Pendant measures approximately 1.625 x 2 inches and includes a sterling silver chain in your choice of length from 16 to 30 inches.

This necklace is inspired by La Lechuza, a mythical figure from Mexican folklore. La Lechuza is a shape-shifting creature that takes the shape of a woman or an enormous owl. Some legends say she is a massive owl with a woman's face or human eyes. She flies silently through the night and uses her screeches to lure people into the woods before attacking them. Many believe La Lechuza is a victim of betrayal, seeking her revenge. Some believe she was once a witch or a healer who used her powers for good, but after a betrayal, became a vengeful, murderous spirit. Other sources believe La Lechuza to be a witch's familiar, doing the bidding of the devil. Some folktales say that she preys solely on children or drunks. No matter the legend, La Lechuza is considered to one of the most terrifying omens in Mexican culture.Â
