This necklace is inspired by Ereshkigal, the ancient Sumerian goddess of the Underworld. Ereshkigal ruled over the realm of the dead in ancient Mesopotamian mythology. She is often depicted as a stern and formidable figure, responsible for judging the souls of the deceased who enter her domain. Ereshkigal's story is intertwined with that of her sister, Inanna (also known as Ishtar), the goddess of love and war, who descends into the underworld in search of power but is ultimately captured by Ereshkigal. During Inanna's absence, Ereshkigal's power over the underworld becomes more pronounced, symbolizing themes of death, fate, and the cyclical nature of life. Despite her fearsome reputation, Ereshkigal's character is complex, as she is also portrayed as a figure of mourning and grief, burdened by her role in the afterlife. Her myths reflect ancient Mesopotamian beliefs about the inevitability of death and the importance of balance between the realms of the living and the dead. As the queen of the underworld, Ereshkigal remains one of the most significant deities in Sumerian and Akkadian religion.
