Earrings include sterling silver ear hooks that fit most standard ear piercings. Earrings measure 1 x 1.75 inches and weigh 5 grams, approximately the same weight as a US nickel.
These earrings are inspired by the Greek goddess Hecate, goddess of magic and spells. Hecate assisted Demeter in the search for Persephone when Persephone was abducted by Hades and taken to the Underworld. She is often depicted with three bodies standing back-to-back, holding torches, and accompanied by her hounds. Hecate is associated with crossroads, doorways, death, ghosts, the night, and the moon. She is also considered to be the veil between the mortal and supernatural world and was believed to have guarded the entrance to the Underworld. In present day, she is still considered a powerful deity and is worshiped by several religious groups around the world.
