The Kumiho Necklace

Unit price  per

Handmade sterling silver and brass statement necklace. A hand-sawed, hand-textured fox with nine tails sits above a petite Ethiopian opal, set in a simple, serrated bezel setting. The fox and the opal sit beneath a petite crescent moon, all displayed in a hand-sawed ornate frame. A beautiful antiqued, matte finish complete this piece. Necklace measures approximately 2 x 2.25 inches and includes a sterling silver chain in your choice of length from 16 to 30 inches.

This necklace is inspired by the Kumiho, the nine-tailed fox from Korean folklore. The Kumiho has many similarities to the Japanese Kitsune and the Chinese Huli Jing. The Kumiho is a shapeshifter that can transform from nine-tailed fox to a beautiful woman that seduces men. Once the Kumiho wins the man’s affection, the Kumiho feeds on the hearts and life force of her victims. Kumihos also hold the “fox marble,” a marble of energy and knowledge, and use it to absorb a human’s life force or grant them celestial knowledge. These Korean Femme Fatal spirits are symbols of deception, transformation, and the dichotomy of beauty and danger.Â
