The Soucouyant is a shape-shifting creature that is believed to take the shape of an old woman by day and a flaming ball of fire or a burning orb at night. Many liken her to a vampire, sucking on the blood of her prey and leaving them pale and lifeless. The Soucouyant is said to be able to take off her skin, hanging it to dry as she takes her orb form. She is said to fly through the air in search of her victims. Some believe she is a witch that harms people out of jealousy, while others believe her to simply be a malicious spirit. The Soucouyant is an interesting mix of supernatural terrors and the cultural belief in witchcraft.Â
