Handmade sterling silver statement earrings. Hand-sawed, hand-textured deer leap out of hand-sawed decorative borders. Sterling silver wire arcs above the deer with brass stars dangling beneath them. Earrings include sterling silver ear hooks that fit most standard ear piercings. Earrings measure 1.25 x 1.75 inches and weighs 6 grams, approximately the same weight as a US quarter.
These earrings are inspired by the Native American spirit the Deer Woman (or Deer Lady). The Deer Woman primarily comes from tribes of the Central Plains and the eastern Woodlands, yet stories of her can be found up into the Pacific Northwest. She is considered a protective spirit that presides over women and children, and is often associated with fertility and love. However, when someone harms a woman or child, specifically a man, the Deer Woman seeks vengeance and lures men to their deaths. The Deer Woman takes the form of a beautiful woman with the feet of a deer or a full deer. The Deer Woman is likened to the succubus or the siren, though many view her as a spirit that protects women and children, rather than a seductress that lures men in for fun.
