Handmade sterling silver asymmetrical statement earrings. Hand-sawed diamonds house a hand-sawed spider and a hand-sawed spider web. Petite garnet stones are set in simple, serrated bezel settings. Earrings include sterling silver ear hooks that fit most standard ear piercings. Earrings measure 0.75 x 1.75 inches and weigh 3 grams, approximately the same weight as a US penny.
These earrings are inspired by the Japanese folk creature Jorōgumo, a shapeshifting yōkai that takes the shape of a spider or a beautiful spider woman. These creatures live in solitude yet are known for the havoc they wreak on young men. The Jorōgumo spins beautiful, intricate webs, and after they reach 400 years old, they gain special powers and develop a taste for human flesh, specifically that of young men. They use their beauty and skills of deceit to lure men into their webs to feast. They're also believed to employ fire-breathing spiders to cause destruction.
